Connecting and Playing:

FoxMUD is a Telnet application.
Telnet is a text-only Internet protocol that is older than the HTTP protocol used by the Web.

To connect, you will need a Telnet client. Most browsers have a Telnet client embedded, so that all you need to do to connect is click here:

telnet://foxmud.com:4848
This is FoxMUD's address.

If this doesn't work, you have other options. Even if it does work, there are much better ways to connect than by a simple Telnet client.

If you just want to pop in and look around, without installing anything, then go to the Mudmagic page for FoxMUD and click the words "Java Connect" in the upper right. This will connect to Fox with a Java client.

The best way to MUD, preferred by maybe 9 out of 10 MUDders, is to install client software on your machine to connect. These clients do a lot more than merely connect you by old-style command line interface. They are customizable and programmable, with triggers, macros and aliases to help your character play. Some ones we recommend are:

cMud by Zuggsoft
GMud - Open Source Client
Suggestions for Mac clients

However you connect, joining the fun is easy when you're there. Follow the instructions to create a new character, and you will arrive at the Adventurer's Guild in the city of Dakron Bae. You'll want to read the extensive helps (type 'help mud') and use the "gossip" channel to communicate. Type "gossip Hi, I'm new!" or something to let the other players know you're there.
