You still go idle (to the void) in the same amount of time, but the time it takes to get disconnected for being idle is much, much longer (now about 90 to 120 minutes, vs. 15-20 minutes it used to be).
Also, 'my' syntax implemented -- for 'look 'examine' 'get' 'put' commands --
Default was/is/will be: get/put thingie [from/in] container,
...which checks 1. room containers (on ground) 2. inventory 3. worn items
New 'my' syntax skips things in room, checks: 1. inventory 2. worn items
...e.g. get thingie from my box would not check for thingie's in, say, the donation box :)
Also, if you divest yourself of a non-empty container, you get feedback.
Many item manipulation commands (e.g. wear, remove, get, drop, give, drink, eat, pour, etc.) are 1. now 'transparent' to words like 'a' 'an' and 'the' (allowing you to 'put ring pack' or 'put a ring into the pack' etc.). Also, more specific feedback messages have been implemented for those same commands.
Muse command: self-only say, echoes to self only, useful for clients (?)
'Locate' spell now has two casting options:
- default skips items carried by PCs (only checks mobs and stuff 'on ground')
- can cast it with * to check everyone, PCs included: cast locate * <item>
- can cast it with ! to skip donation boxes' contents: cast locate ! <item>
"Double casters" (mage/cleric and cleric/mage characters) will now get a bit more mana from their secondary class, both as a flat bonus, and then based on the mana stat for their SECONDARY class (e.g. Wis for mage/clerics). (A low 2ndary class mana stat will at worst grant no extra mana, but no penalty. :)
Unweave can now also target temporary things like globes of warmth and portals.
New command: lastchannels (akin to lasttells, lastgtells) -- help lastchannels
New Typo Quest started Tues 09 Jan 2007 (see: help typos)
Enchant Armor spell now fully enchants armor in one casting (same bonuses).
2006:
You can now forge a third weapon: warhammer (slightly smaller than 'sword'), as well as a light source ('torch'). See: help forgeYou will now see when some spells wear off of other folks (fellow PCs or mobs). For which spells, see: help duration
Commissioned Eq costs now set for regen bonuses (also for spell foci).
'mass entangle' can now be removed with bundle of stick webs, et. al.
Rent limits have been raised, so you can rent w/more stuff! (help rent)
Mobs are a bit smarter about when to cast area of effect spells now.
look board -<#> ... this syntax works again :)
Quad Level 40 now grants 2 stat trains (vs. just 1 ;')
Vision spell has been upgraded. Output is now much, much better! ;')
Foci are now commisionable (help commissioned eq).
Components now aid memorizing, but only by lowering mana cost. If you wish to NOT use up components from inventory, you can use the 'memorize -' syntax.

Components are now extracted only if you end up spending mana (or a mem slot) on your attempts to cast the spell. Messages have been updated appropriately.
Eating vs. fullness/hunger: if you are too full to eat that big a meal, you will not be able to; but, if it's a trivial amount of food, you now can (including such things as 'magical food' (item type PILL) and tiny bits of food, like a single raisin :). Note that if 'magical food' that is quite filling might be too much to eat, just as a large mundane meal is.
Riposte (finally) does damage of a type based on weapon(s) wielded (no other changes to riposte :)
Solidify command -- ends 'pass wall' spell if you are so affected.
Healing spells now do more damage to undead mobs, giving clerics a bit of an edge against them (making clerics competative with mages in this case). Note: 'Miracle' was not affected by this change, nor were spells which HEAL undead.
Mass Cure ... Wounds/Heal-ing spells can now be cast to harm undead INSTEAD of healing oneself and one's allies (grouped PCs in same room):
Syntax: cast 'mass heal' undead (mass healing/cure wounds spells cast as usual, targetting one's own group, if you skip the "undead" argument: cast 'mass heal' etc.)
%S in prompt can show you if you are san'd/baleful aura'd/minor sanc'd
Fly and Illuminate can now be cast to target items, temporarily making them Glow or Hover, respectively.
Mass Fly min mana cost should have been 25, not 50 -- now it is :)
We now have (NONCONTAGIOUS) diseases, and a new cleric 'cure disease' spell.
Unweave can now end temporary (not permanent) enchantments on items.
New Help: Clerical Blasting Spells (lists 'em all for convenience)
Unweave no longer targets caster by default (so no more accidently unweaving yourself). If caster is fighting, default is foe; if not fighting, caster who does not specify a target just gets a message and unweave not cast.
Mass ... spells (we have 20 -- help mass spells) will now properly target all familiars of PC group members just as they would group members themselves (for beneficial mass ... spells -- no change to 'mass entangle').
As ever, renting is limited to 60 items, but when you try to rent, items which vanish on rent are no longer counted against that limit (e.g. holy items you can pray for at temples or conjured food).
New Spell: utility spell 'Whispers of the Sylphs' -- simply allows you to see and use channels like gossip while asleep (mage and cleric uncommon spell).
Note: If you know Mindsight (even a little bit) and complete Borm's Dream Trance Quest, you can gain this same ability without needing this spell (but Mindsight is a very high level, all class skill, fyi). :) Borm's Dream Trance Quest is also brand new. ;')
Prompt has 3 new things (fields) it can include: %y, %Y, %P
%y is current XP, %Y is current banked XP -- both with commas ('x' w/tail ;')
%P is Familiar current XP (think Phamiliar? ;')
Familiars can gain levels!! (Details posted on the "mortal" board.)

Affects now has shading (if you have config +color, that is color turned on), so spells about to expire are listed in darker grey, spells with an unlimited duration (such as those granted by worn eq) are listed in white, and the rest are listed in the same color they were: lighter grey.
Raise Dead has been upgraded a very tiny bit, so now it is slightly easier on your exp to be 'raise'd than to solve the deathmaze, but only a little.
Sobriety of the Sacred Order -- new uncommon clerical level 8 prayer which reduces drunken state of target based on caster's level (min mana 10).
Item of the Day! help item of the day ...new daily feature here ;')
Uncommon mage lvl 5 spell: Wreck -- good damage, but only harms golems, animate statues, constructs, clockwork beings, and the like.
Letters of Credit (hard coded/self paced) Quest has been added to the game!
This is the first of permanent, self paced, no-immortal-needed quests. For details: help letters of credit
New Mage level 3 spell: Escape (attempts several "flee"s in quick burst)
New Command: lastgtells (also lastgts) -- like lasttells, but lists last dozen group tells. Never miss grouptells again! :)
New Command: Trade -- allows trading of trade bars (silver, gold, and platinum) for different trade bars, or for forgable bars (bronze, iron, steel, copper, mithril, adamant). Done at the bank, no need to juggle bars in inventory! :)
Help on forge now lists all items which can be forged, as well as the number of bars needed to forge each. Stats on forged objects are up to players to discover. ;')
New Necromancer spell: Deaths Dreams (suspends corpsing/mazing indefinitely!)
Easter Egg Quest will be ongoing for 1 week after Easter! :)
Problem with Gotk's giant newts area connection corrected, finally. :)
Opening Quest for Krush's Darkwood area was four hours of challenging fun!

Fixed faulty bonus overlaps between Bless/Maleficence of Dhysral and Divine Might/Elemental Fury/Fell Aura (sometimes gave 0 bonuses, or wrong bonuses).
Junk command now less likely to accidently junk containers (e.g. packs, robes).
Noop command (actually added months ago) -- basically a client-friendly do-nothing command for anti-idle triggers.

Troya lorded, then immorted! Her mortal character's new name is Kyrie, while 'Troya' is now an immortal (level 44 Wizard), ready to start building an area!

New uncommon clerical spell: Bronze Skin (level 29, 35 min mana, AC -4.5).
New characters now enter the game with config +deathmaze already set.
When you wake or are woken, you go from sleeping to reseting (not sitting).
Familiars and grouping: you no longer need to group your familiar (and in fact cannot), as they can access gtell to communicate to any group you are in, show up on group (no argument) and gwho along with you, and any kills they make pass the experience on to you as long as you are presnt with them at the time.
Forge command syntax fixed and significantly upgraded -- you can now specify which type of metal bar you wish to forge items from (but you do not have to).
New Lord Spell: Greater Recall (Mage 41, Cleric 42) transcontinental recall
Albion's second area connected -- newbie to low level, mole tunnels just outside of Darkon Bae's West Gate.

20 November 2005:
Fox MUD is back, restored by the hard work of Morgul and Fickle, aided by
Dagda's July 2003 backup (for a brief period around October 2005, we were
running off Fickle's May 25 2002 backup). Talisman, Kashaar, and Sygis have
each aided considerably in these efforts, and Throm and Adiron have returned to
help out as well.
What happened? It's several long stories of multiple catestrophic events, and
despite Morgul's best efforts, we were down for years. Sygis did what he could
for years to keep us at a stable site, but was not able to do so indefinitely,
sorry. Morgul now hosts us on his site, for which we are deeply grateful!! :)
From here out, multiple regular backups and the most stable code base ever,
plus a stable site, help ensure Fox MUD is back and will continue from here. :)
Morgul has appointed Fickle our DoC, for which Sygis is gratefully unburdened
of trying to wear two hats at once. Fickle remains asst. DoP, too. :)
Kashaar, former Dean of Players (mortal advocate and mortal rules overseer),
is once again DoP (Fickle was DoP while Kashaar wasn't, in 2003 until 2005,
though we were down 2004-2005). Kitten was our previous DoP from 1998 to 2002.
Reimbursements for play while we were using older backups are underway. Fickle
is handling these, so see him if you think you're missing anything from October
or very early November in 2005. :)
A lot of folks will have forgotten their passwords, and old emails may not be
active anymore, so we'll work with folks to get old characters sorted out. :)
It's hard to start a car which hasn't been started in a while, but once we get
it running again, it'll run great once again. That's our goal, and we look
forward to getting this classic vehicle of our combined imagination back on the
road to adventure once again!

2005:
Dakron Bae has gained the start of a new area: Darlentian's Mage Guild upgrade
was connected Friday 18 November 2005 after being in the works for a while.
Expansions to this area will include low level 'Mage Maze' as well as the upper
floors of the tower itself. All shops connected with the mage guild have been
moved to within the tower itself, and the Gallery (paintings and statues which
animate) remains connected through the mage guild, as ever.
The syntax: look board -<#> (to see the last # of posts on a board) will be
reimplemented, but as we merged 2002 and 2003 backups, wasn't immediately
doable as code from each was done a little differently on the 'look' command.
'Watch' command can now target your own familiar; Syntax: watch familiar

Score can now display different output (you can customize what it shows, like
if it shows you spells affecting you, next level exp needed, etc.).
Stacked mobs wrap your lines less often now, if at all.
Boards can now be checked even more efficiently (see help look).
Nextlevel command -- checks exp needed for next level in each class
Random Character Generation is BACK! Now, you can choose assigned stat points
_OR_ roll your stats randomly! Thanks Fickle!! ;')

'maleficence of Dhysral' now CAN target items in caster's inventory.
Failed logins to your character reported to that character on their next
_successful_ login.
Fixed a grouping bug, plus 'follow' command w/o argument shows whom you follow.
Also, grouped mobs no longer dilute whole group's exp shares.
Scan now accepts distance/range limit (up to its normal max of 5 'rooms').
Familiar upgrades!: (see: help familiar)
- your familiar rents w/you, and logs back in with you
- you can dismiss your familiar with the new 'dimiss!' command
- familiar awareness/sight enhanced/fixed, so familiars will see items, mobs
and pass that info back to their master, if master in different 'room'
- familiars now gain exp if in the room when master gains exp (only a fraction,
and familiars cannot level...yet... ;')
Founders' Day Quest Wednesday was 06 November 2002 @ 10PM Eastern (US) Daylight
Savings Time, plus a second quest was run the preceeding weekend.

Quest for the weekend of Nov (1) 2 and 3 is delayed until just Nov 3, but will
run through the end of Nov 4th to make up. Sygis appoligies for the delay.
Quests will be run the first and second weekends in November 2002, as well as
on Fox MUD's Founders' Day itself, November 6, 2002 (see 'mortal' board).
Prizes will be great! ;')
Baleful Aura, Create Ichor, and Maleficence of Dhysral can now be practiced.
Helps on each of these spells detail who teaches each.
Two Halloween quests were run. Details posted on the 'mortal' board. ;')
You now die at lower of -11 or negative (your Con + 1) HPs! :)
When you login, you are now set to however many parrying attempts you last
rented (or saved, if we crash or reboot while you're playing) with.
You can now push and pull dead PCs around IFF you are grouped with them or in
the same clan. Your familiar, charms, pets can, too, if you are all grouped
together, or if you and the victim are in the same clan.
New help: dual class spells (spells learnable by both mages and clerics)
Search skill can be used unpracced if you are a high enough thief to know it.
Note your chances using it unpracced are fairly abyssmal, however.
Reveal command (shares knowledge of secret exits you've searched out)
You can now give or slip something 'to' someone, or steal 'from' them.
Channels command output colorized (if you're config +color), commented.
New clerical prayer: Maleficence of Dhysral (evil version of Bless)
...note: you can just cast 'mal' or cast mal (don't need to type whole name ;')

Your character's 'score' now displays their gender.
Level gains now echoed globally (you can squelch them: config +/-announce).
Remove Curse spell now permits removal of 'cursed' items.
Invis and Bless spells can now target items (effect is temporary, until rent).
New mage spell: Drain Mana (level 30) ...drains foe, you regain a little mana
Bags of Holding: special containers which, when equiped, hold a certain type of
contents w/o encumbering the wearer (including rent limit! ;')
...these include quivers (hold arrows and bolts), potion cases, scroll
organizers, foodpacks, belt pouches (for blowgun darts and sling stones),
document wallets (for tickets and writs), component pouches, and so on....
Mobs w/critical blow now give message: ... strikes a weak point ... when used.
New warrior skill: Keen Blade (stacks w/Poison Blade if blade sharpened first)
Area-affecting spells which do damage can now target outlaws, or, if cast in
the Arena, any fellow player character when cast by a player character.
Disruptor no longer affects fellow PCs except in these two cases.
New Druid (neutral cleric) Lord prayer: Scent of the Wild
New Necromancer (evil cleric) Lord prayer: Shroud of Undeath
New Cleric prayer: Steel Skin (level 40) ... -1.0 AC better than Stone Skin

New command: disarm -- removes ammo from loaded ranged weapons
New commands for shops: identify and display (see: help identify command,
help display). Also, List upgraded to show if items too high level for you.
The 'put' command now accepts 'in' etc. (e.g. you can now 'put hat in bag').
Familiars can now access their master's bank account.
Help now works even if drowning (sorry it didn't before).
Thieves got a new skill: observe! see 'help observe' for details ;')
You can now bank and reclaim exp yourself (still requires a QP). See
'help bank' and 'help reclaim' for details.
New command for the Arena: concede (allows one to leave the arena).
Sygis has corrected an error in racial stat maxes for Elves, Fairies, Gnomes,
Halfling, Half-Orcs, Merfolk, Raptyr, and Zhoryl. This results in another stat
point at character creation and a higher max in a stat or two for these races.
New thief skill 'Poison Awareness' just added (level 7) .. see help for info.
New cleric prayer 'Sense Poison' just added (level 29) .. see help for details.
Socials have been upgraded to handle subject-verb tense better.
The Wayfinder summoned by the dwarves of Benthera can be gated to.
Frostshield can be learned from the Ice Dragon, and Dire Chill is taught by
the Ice Lich.
Fickle has joined the ranks of our Creators as our newest Lesser Creator! :)
Two new channels have been added (like gossip): Quest and Roleplay (rp)

Forget command added (allows you to un-memorize one memmed spell).
You can now set a minimum character level required to see your email address
when folks finger you (e.g., if 44, only immorts can see it).
Frostshield spell added (simply a cold analog of Fireshield w/o the glow).
And now it can be practiced!
Fireshield and Sanctuary now make their target stand out in an otherwise dark
(unlit) room.
Dymond joined the ranks of the Creators as our 2nd newest Lesser Creator.
He has distinguished himself through his profound mastery of both area
building and as the player of no less than six mortal Lords. Welcome! ;')
Memmed spells now save through rent/reboot.
Aliases now support the multicommand '+' (see: help alias).
Sac Boards now bleed off slowly, so no more big dropoffs on a monthly basis.
The False Speech spell works finally.
History command now works as it should in that it allows you to repeat
commands from your command history list.
Score now lists exp with commas.
Components are now fully implemented (see: help components).
FYI, we've updated 'help address' (details addresses to which you can telnet)

Aliases have been increased from 20 per character to 30 per character.

Trade bars remain pending. You will be able to trade lots of silver bars, a
few gold bars, or one or two platinum bars for most any forgable bar you want.
Familiar spell undergoing _significant_ upgrades. May take time, but our
goal is rentable, levelable familiars (will rent and log back in with you,
have their own eq, learn new skills/spells, etc.). See Sygis for details
and to offer feedback and suggestions.
